Join us on this unique trip to the Cretan land and let its beauty travels you!! Starting from Rethymno we visit for a little the symbol of Cretan revolution, the historical Arkadi Monastery. Images, symbols and buildings take us to the martyrdom of 1866 and define how human sacrifice can become the necessary evil for freedom. Continuing, we will follow a magical off road route to the river dam “fragma Potamon”. The breathtaking and panoramic view of the dam enchants every visitor and creates the desire to capture and share the moment with his company.
From here we make a short journey to SAINT ANTONIOS Gorge, where we will be able to admire protected species of flora and fauna in a separate natural forest. Through a short path we will reach the sacred temple that is installed in a rare natural rock architecture. Time seems short to assimilate images and colours, so we will stay a little longer in a beautiful place, where we will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional delicacies and coffee. Back in the vehicles again and we pass through small traditional villages full of interest to the famous for its spring water, the village of Spili. There we will have a brief stop for a tour of the picturesque paths of this impressive village, built amphitheatrically, with the tall age-old plane trees and over 25 lion head fountains with cold mountain water running all year.

It’s the time for our meal. A traditional tavern gives us the opportunity to try a selection of delicious local starters, main courses (vegetarian option available) and enjoy Cretan wine. A few kilometers further we will meet the KOURTALIOTIS Gorge, one of the most important natural attractions of Rethymno. Its rocky slopes reach 600 m and the river at its base is fed by 5 water sources, which according to tradition were created when St. Nikolaos touched the slope of the gorge with the fingers of his hand. Going down to the river we will feel the refreshing aura of the gorge, we will admire the wildlife, but also rare vultures that sometimes come out to welcome visitors.
We continue through a dusty off road route, to the natural palm forest OF PREVELI, which give the region a sense of an African landscape. There we will admire the old stone bridge 7 m high, which extends at a distance of 33.5 m, above the river. Approaching we need to stop at the entrance of a path, just above the rare palm forest and after ten minutes of hiking is enough to be enchanted by the dominance of the palm tree in a setting with unique rock formations, a river fading into the waters of the Libyan Sea and a horizon eager to swallow miles of coastline and small islands.The path leads to stairs to a stunning beach, where the sun and clear waters will give us unique moments of swimming and relaxation for a little.
As we head back we will pass by the KOTSIFOS gorge, crossing the imposing rocks, while a series of traditional villages will say goodbye to us, giving touches from the history of Crete. Another journey comes to an end with mixture of feelings that ran through our veins! There is no denying that some trips are more remarkable, some moments make you rethink your life and take your breath for a few moments
